OBE (Out of Body Experience)

What is an OBE?

OBE is an abbreviation for out-of-body experience, also known as astral projection. It is a paranormal phenomenon in which the astral body (soul) exits the body. When the soul leaves the body it is often accompanied by hearing loud noises and bang or a tingling and loose feeling. These exits are related to lucid dreams, among other things.

This is because both experiences are accompanied by a strong sense of consciousness. Lucid dreams are dreams in which you are aware of the fact that you are dreaming and can therefore decide for yourself what happens in the dream. An out of body experience can also be experienced with certain types of drugs. An OBE and NDE (near-death experience) can be placed in the same category, but they do differ.

Difference between OBE and NDE

An OBE is the exit of the physical body. This also happens with a near-death experience, only the experiences and cause in an NDE are different. The cause of an NDE is usually due to an accident, coma, cardiac arrest or other cause in which the physical body has suffered damage. An OBE can occur when you train yourself to dream consciously or take a certain drugs. You can call up or cause an OBE yourself and an NDE happens unintentionally while you are close to death after which you step out of your body.

There is often confusion between the two because it overlaps. You usually call up an OBE yourself, but you can also experience an OBE when you have an NDE because during an NDE you can sense yourself out of your body. To keep it simple, you can use this phrase: NDE is an OBE in which you don't call it up yourself and it is caused by damage to your body. An OBE in itself is an experience that you can call up yourself without there being any injury to your body.

Scientific explanation

There is no accepted scientific evidence that exits are taking place, but a possible scientific explanation for the phenomenon could be sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is a sleep disorder in which your body is paralyzed or "still asleep", while your brain is awake and you are conscious. This can make it feel like you are paralyzed, which is why it is called sleep paralysis. The disorder also has very realistic hallucinations where it can feel as if you are leaving your body. However, it has not been proven that this experience is caused by the sleep disorder.

For now it has not been scientifically proven and people who have experienced this think that it has to do with supernatural forces and paranormal phenomena. OBE is associated with telepathy, proscopy and telekinesis. Like paranormal abilities, OBE can also be perceived in this way as you can train yourself to control it while meditating or dreaming. When an OBE is experienced through drugs, it is not a paranormal gift, it is an artificially induced OBE.
