Rajum Al-Hiri

Rajum Al-Hiri is a monument in the form of a stone circle on the Golan Heights, a hilly area on the border between Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Israel. Everyone knows Stonehenge, but do you also know this stone artwork and what makes it so bizarre and fascinating? You can read about it in this blog.

The stone circle is located in the middle of a plateau with hundreds of dolmens. A dolmens is a burial chamber consisting of at least three but often many more standing stones, covered by a capstone. The dolmens around the stone circle date from different times, such as the copper age and the bronze age.

The stone circle consists of more than 42,000 tonnes of basalt blocks laid out in circles. In the middle of the circle there is a hill with several layers of stone walls. The outer ring is almost half a kilometer in circumference and has a diameter of over 150 meters. The circles are connected to each other by smaller walls. Some circles are between 2.5 and 3 meters thick!

Despite the fact that several people have observed and researched the stone circle, the target and origin have not yet been discovered. Some people think it is a tomb, others a place of worship or a form of earlier calendar. Maybe we can see if there is a clue in the name to the origin of this structure. In Arabic the name means "height of the wild cat", but also the origin of the name is unknown. In Hebrew it means ''Wheel of Refaim''. This is so called because the people of Bashan would be a race of giants. Would this mean that it was made by giants?

Use of the circle

Scientific research started in the 1960s. In the 1980s, more extensive research was carried out and the first excavations began. Not much is known about why the circle was created, only that it once served as a cult place and place for tribal meetings. In the tomb in the middle a lot of jewelry and precious objects were found. Research shows that the tomb dates from the end of the 2nd millennium B.C., so this must have been one of the oldest tombs discovered.

Despite the fact that a lot of people say it served as a tomb, no human remains have ever been found. Only objects that suggest that it has served as a tomb. Possibly the site was also used for observing the constellations. Researchers discovered that the site was built on the basis of the size of the position of stars.

Construction by mythical creatures

Some people think this has been the work of giants. First of all because the work is very large and normal people have had to spend a lot of their time and effort to build it. Secondly, because the Tenah reported that there was a breed of giants living in the area. From here the theory was put forward that maybe the king of Bashan was buried here. When we talk about giants, we are going to talk about extraterrestrial and supernatural powers as well. Some people think that people have been helped by aliens to build it because it was too difficult for people to do it alone.

It sounds like a special place to go and admire the structure and objects, would you like to come here?
